Tooting’s mini revival continued this afternoon as they made it 4 points out of 6 with a determined display against promotion chasing Wingate & Finchley and in the process stretched their recent unbeaten run to four games.
Wingate & Finchley had most of the early possession however the Terrors defence looked solid and were rarely troubled by anything their visitors had to offer. The destiny of the game turned in the 20th minute when Chace O’Neill put Tooting in front with a wonderful strike from 25 yards out after receiving a long cross field pass from Danny Bassett out wide on the left. As the half progressed, they continued to play with confidence but were unable to add to their lead.
Tooting started the second half brightly and ten minutes in, they doubled their lead. The move started in their own half, when a pass from Isaiah Jones set Danny Bassett free down the left flank. The Tooting player out ran his maker to break clear and as he ran into the penalty area he spotted Omar Folkes up in support, unmarked in the centre. However the final pass was not quite executed as intended, but fortunately the ball fell to Chace O’Neill also up in support and his shot took a wicked deflection, looping up and over the keeper as he dived, before dropping into the back of the net. The visitors continued to press to try and get themselves back in the game and despite winning a number of corners, were kept at bay until the final whistle by Matte Pierson and his defence.
